The five letters form a word that is both passive and active.
Its passive meaning is “to stay, to rest, to pause, to remain or to wait”
And its active is “to persist, persevere, to continue and to keep on”
The Lord gave you and I a command to abide in Him
“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.
If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”
But we must realize that we cannot do this on our own. In fact Jesus made that clear when He said “Apart from me you can do nothing” John 15:5
You and I need grace. Yes, the Grace of God to keep on, to persevere, to continue and remain in the Lord.
I have heard the saying that only people with genuine love will remain/abide in the Lord. Yes, that is true but what is also true is – only people with the grace of God can continue in the Lord. Remember, It is not by works that we are saved.
Only grace can keep us from giving up. It is this grace that stops us from denying Christ or abandoning His truth when storms of life rage. Grace is what you and I need to keep on going…
It is by the grace of God that I can say “But as for me, it is good to be near God” Psalm 73:28
So for you to abide, you need grace too. Ask God for grace today.
