I believe this has happened to everyone before or you might find yourself going through this stage at the moment.
Personally, this had happened to me on numerous occasions during my unsaved years. For example, I will hear the word of God in church and something will tell me, Dami you don’t have to listen to that, it’s all lies OR maybe get distracted by something else at the time.
I used to get so mad and blame God for it. I will say to myself ok next time I will give my life to You God but now I can’t because all my friends are here and I can’t let people know a pastor’s daughter is not saved yet.
2. Rocky Soil- I call it the “Not Deep”
In Luke 8:13 Jesus explains; the seeds that fell on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they believe for a while, then they fall away when they face temptation.
Once again I will give you my personal experience with the rocky “not deep” soil.
I gave my life to Christ in 2010, I can say during the first two years of my relationship with God this was my daily story.
I found myself going back to my old ways. Repent and fall, repent and fall, repent and fall…
Majority are still going through this right now maybe you too.
You say Dami you are so right! This is so me but how can I get out of this.
I encourage you to say a prayer to God right now. Tell Him you are fed up of being this kind of person. This is the final straw. You are fed up!
Then Believe He is ready to do His part, just be ready to do yours. SACRIFICE! Trust me it gets easier.
You have to make your root deeper- Read your bible and study it daily, pray and spend some quality time with Him. He will draw near to you if you draw near to Him.
Consciously thirst for God every second, every minute, every hour of your life. Before you know it, He will start to reveal so many things to you.
He will give you peace, hope, love…and so much more.
3. Thorns- I call it the “Worries of Life”
In Luke 8:14; Jesus explains what he meant by thorns. He said the seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of life. And so they never grow into maturity.
I like Mark’s version even better. Mark 4:18-19; Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.
Many believers are like this. We are getting distracted by the worldly things.
Yes you hear the word of God, you believe, you start to grow in faith, maturing and all but just at the final hurdle you get distracted.
One minute you believe God has your back, next minute you tell yourself there’s no way a miracle can happen tomorrow. Eventually you prevent your seed from becoming a tree which produces fruits.
Let God take the wheel. Surrender all to Him, don’t be distracted by the things of this world that eventually fades away. Put God first in all you do. Stop getting preoccupied by these thorns i.e. your job, money, cars, and even busyness.
If this is you today and you want to change your soil, I join my faith with yours today. I pray you take God as your first and primary priority from now on.
4. Good soil- I call it “The-Good Soil”
I absolutely love how Luke describes this kind of soil in Luke 8:15. He says:
“And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it and patiently produce a huge harvest”.
Let me try and break down this verse.
“The honest and good hearted people who hear God’s word”– Who Jesus is describing here is; someone who is saved through Him. Someone who is honest and surrenders when the word of God is pointing out things in their life He wants to change. Someone who truly loves God and do exactly all He says.
They receive the word immediately.
“Cling to it“- Someone who just doesn’t hear the word of God and play around with it.
He is referring to someone who understands the benefit of the word. Someone who receives the word deeply in their heart, so it cannot be uprooted easily. One that knows the devil will snatch the word away if not held firmly so they cling to it.
Someone who receives the word exclusively so that it’s fruit is not choked by the worries of life.
“And patiently produce a huge harvest“- I like the word “patient” used in this verse. It is very important to know that after one hears the word and cling to it, there is another stage one must go through. I call it the “not so easy stage”. Many of us do not want to wait on God. We go through all the stages but forget/overlook this last bit.
You say Dami, it’s easier said than done. Yes I know. But if we can’t achieve it Jesus won’t tell us to patiently wait.
During this stage, please do not forget to water this seed that is growing. To “produce a huge harvest” of thirty, sixty or even hundreds, one must constantly water the seed.
Feed on the Word of God daily.
We should count ourselves privileged that Jesus shared this story with us. His Grace is just too much.
I want to be the-good soil and continue to be one till the end.
Think and reflect. Which type of soil are you?
Be the – good soil today.
Love you all,
