Becoming Best Friends with God

For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of His Son while we were still His enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of His Son.

Romans 5:10 NLT

God has many different aspects; God is your Creator, Maker, Lord and Master, Judge, Redeemer, Father, Saviour and much more.

Moses and Abraham were called friends of God. David was called a man after [God’s] own heart and Job, Enoch and Noah had intimate friendships with God.

“Inside the Tent of Meeting, the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.” Exodus 33:11

God wants to be your best friend

“So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.” Romans 5:11

All this is done by God, who through Christ changed us from enemies into His friends. 2 Corinthians 5:18a says “And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.”

God invites us to enjoy friendship and fellowship with all three persons of the Trinity. Our Father, The Son, And the Holy Spirit. I John 1:3

What a privilege to become a best friend of God! Have you grasped the reality of what this means yet?

John 15:15 says “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

God is calling you and me to have a close and trusted relationship with Him. Close and trusted relationship is the same word that is used to refer to the best man or lady at a wedding.

God is a passionate about His relationship with you and 2 things are essential in becoming best friends with God.

 1. Constant Conversation: Friendship with God is built by sharing all your life experiences with Him. He certainly wants to be included in all your daily activities, thoughts, conversations and every problem. Yes, It’s good to have daily devotion but He wants more than that. He wants you to continue speaking to him throughout the day and be aware that He is with you right now and always. Also never stop praying. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (Tips: Helpful to pray a shorter conversational prayer to avoid wandering). Let God becoming your One and only. The one you will go to when you need advise and encouragements or even share your secrets with. Ephesians 4:6b

2. Continual Meditation of His Words:  You can establish your relationship with God by thinking about His Word throughout your day. Joshua 1:8 “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” The Bible says God revealed Himself to Samuel through His Words (I Samuel 3:21). Meditation is often misunderstood as something difficult, mysterious rituals performed by monks or mystics. But meditation is simply focus thinking – a skill anyone can learn and use everywhere. Remember friendship shares secrets. God can share His secrets with you through His Words
