The book of Daniel is quite fascinating I must say. God revealed a lot to Daniel.

In Daniel chapter 9, we see Daniel praying for His people for God to have mercy. In verse 2, Daniel said while he was reading the word of God which was written by Jeremiah the prophet, that Jerusalem must be desolate for 70 years. Daniel turned to God in prayer and fasting and wore a torn burlap and sprinkled himself with ashes as a sign of sorrow.

What is Revelation?

Revelation is when something that was hidden becomes known.

If we jump to verse 20 of this chapter, we can see that Daniel continued to pray fervently for his people. And what happened next was spectacular!

God revealed Himself again to Daniel by sending Angel Gabriel.

Daniel 9:21:

“As I was praying, Gabriel, whom I had seen in the earlier vision, came swiftly to me at the time of the evening sacrifice. He explained to me, “Daniel, I have come here to give you insight and understanding.”

The purpose of a revelation is to give us an insight and understanding.

In the following verses we see what Gabriel told Daniel… Verse 23 reads “the moment you began praying, a command was given. And now I am here to tell you what it was, for you are very precious to God. Listen carefully so that you can understand the meaning of your vision…”

From there on, Daniel had a clear insight and better understanding regarding the 70 years prophesy and God showed him many more visions of what is to come. (Read chapter 10 – 12)

The key to revelation is Prayer!

Daniel prayed and fasted and God revealed. John prayed and fasted and God revealed. (Read the book of Revelation). There is a trend there, did you see it?

Prayer and Fasting!

It is in the place of prayer and fasting God reveals His plans to us. We get to see into the spirit realms. We get a first class insider gist of what is to come. And often, we receive revelation about our lives; the state of our hearts and others around us or like Daniel about the country and what is to happen in years to come.

And of course, it is in the place of prayer God reveals the plans of the devil to us.

Revelation is a time to be still and listen to God speak. He can speak through a dream, a vision, a miracle, experience, or prophecy.
